Today was my 180th triathlon, The Great Floridian Sprint, out in Clermont. While I have done the 1/3 iron-distance several times in the past, my plantar-fascitis has been bad lately so I elected to do the shorter race.
Friends Dawn Lane and Susan Haag are doing the full iron-distance and Kenyon Congdon was competing in the 1/3. The only odd thing is the full starts at 7:30/sunrise and then comes the 2/3, the 1/3 and finally the Sprint at 9:45, spreading the racers out on the course. Lake temp was 78'f which was fine and I got out on the bike course quickly. A guy drafted me for several miles and then the draft marshall got him; 2 minute penalty. Averaged 18.7mph on the bike. Foot hurting on the run kept my speed down but my mile splits surprised me at 9:48; actually hurt less each mile.
Ended up 4/5 in my age group; 42/88 male, so I was happy and am glad I finished the year on a positive note. I'll be all healed for the 2022 season! High points of the year were my 3rd place in the Clermont Sprint Series and my 1st at the Riverfront International Triathlon in Cocoa.
